Will Smith Reveals Casting Of Will For “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” Reboot

A year after plans were originally revealed for a drama reboot of the classic sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Will Smith has revealed a newcomer to take on the role as Bel-Air’s Will.

West Philadelphia native Jabari Banks has been selected to play the lead role in the upcoming Peacock sitcom.

Smith surprised Banks with the news in a video that can be seen below.

“You’ve got a fantastic road ahead of you, and I’m looking forward to being an asset for you in this process as you build out your life and build out your career,” Smith told Banks, who called the opportunity “a dream come true.”

The project was inspired by writer-director Morgan Cooper’s viral fan film Bel-Air. The four-minute spec trailer, debuted in March, 2019, and caught the attention of Smith. Cooper serves as director, co-writer and executive producer on the project.

The new series has already earned a two-season order from Peacock.
