Tyler Perry Donates 5,000 Meals To Families In Need
Tyler Perry is no stranger to giving back to the community but the filmmaker pulls fans heartstrings every time.
In his latest act of kindness, Tyler donated at least 5,000 meals to families in need before the Thanksgiving holiday. The giveaway took place at Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta on Sunday and reports say that cars were lined up for miles. The gifted items included boxes of food and Kroger gift cards.
Reports say that the first car arrived at 3 AM. The studio said it was out of food by 10 a.m. Sunday.
Tyler personally funded the event, and studio employees donated their time to volunteer and hand out all of the goods.
“Tyler was heartbroken seeing people all over the country stand in line for food so he decided he wanted to give back to his community in Atlanta,” a source close to Perry tells PEOPLE. “Hopefully this encourages others who are able to, to give back during the holiday season in a year that has been difficult for many.”
To maintain proper COVID-19 safety protocols, the food giveaway was drive-thru only, and all employees working the event were tested ahead of time.
Tyler Perry has made many contributions and helped families all across the country. He gifted Kroger shoppers with gift cards, he took care of the bill for Winn-Dixie guests, and he paid the funeral expensive for Rayshard Brooks — the young black father who was gunned down by officers in an Atlanta Wendy’s parking lot.
These are just a few of the many kind acts the 51-year old has done over his career, and these gestures make fans appreciate him even more.
