LOS ANGELES — Netflix has officially renewed its breakout crime drama “Nemesis” for a second season, a move that is generating excitement among fans while also raising hopes for continued film and television production in Los Angeles.
The streaming giant announced the renewal following the show’s successful first season, which premiered on May 14, 2026, and quickly became one of Netflix’s most talked-about original series. The eight-episode crime thriller, created by Courtney A. Kemp and Tani Marole, earned praise for its gripping storytelling, intense action, and standout performances.
Beyond its popularity with viewers, the renewal could also provide another economic boost for Los Angeles. According to Forbes, the first season was filmed in the city, creating hundreds of production jobs while generating millions of dollars in economic activity. With Hollywood continuing to recover from a production slowdown, another season could once again support local crews, vendors, businesses, and the city’s entertainment workforce.
Co-created and executive produced by Courtney A. Kemp, the visionary behind the hit “Power” franchise, and Tani Marole, Nemesis centers on the dangerous cat-and-mouse rivalry between master thief Coltrane Wilder and brilliant LAPD detective Isaiah Stiles. The series combines high-stakes crime, family drama, and unexpected twists, helping it become one of Netflix’s buzziest new dramas.
Speaking after the renewal announcement, Kemp credited the show’s passionate fanbase for making Season 2 possible.
“I feel blessed to get a Season 2. We thank the fans… it’s because of them—there’s no other reason. It’s them showing up, them talking about it and their huge social media response. We are grateful to Netflix for recognizing the power of our audience and bringing us back for the fans.”
Marole also shared her excitement while teasing even bigger developments ahead.
“Season 2, we’re very grateful to have it. We’re going to make sure those questions get answered—and even more questions are available for you to answer. Make no mistakes, Season 2 is going to be bigger and better.”
During Netflix’s Celebration of Black Television panel at the 30th Annual American Black Film Festival, Kemp reflected on the series’ success and admitted she enjoys watching audiences passionately debate—and even “hate-watch”—her shows, a testament to how invested viewers become in the characters and storylines.
Season 1 concluded with one of the year’s biggest cliffhangers. Following an explosive multi-person shootout, Coltrane Wilder fled through the streets of Los Angeles with Detective Isaiah Stiles, Noah Stiles, and several armed pursuers chasing him. Cornered in a dead-end alley, Coltrane found himself face-to-face with Noah, who pointed a gun at him while seeking revenge for his grandfather’s death. The tense confrontation ended without revealing Coltrane’s fate, leaving audiences eager to discover what happens next.
The series stars Y’lan Noel as Coltrane Wilder and Matthew Law as LAPD Robbery-Homicide Division Lieutenant Isaiah Stiles, whose commanding performance has been praised for bringing authenticity, authority, and emotional depth to the role.
With its compelling storytelling, memorable characters, and enthusiastic fan response, Nemesis has established itself as one of Netflix’s breakout hits of 2026. As production gears up for Season 2, fans can expect long-awaited answers, higher stakes, and even more twists when the acclaimed crime drama returns.
