Jeezy Files For Divorce From Jeannie Mai After 2 Years of Marriage

Jeezy is throwing in the towel after only two years of marriage with former “The Real” host Jeannie Mai.

According to court records obtained by PEOPLE, Jeezy (real name Jay Jenkins), filed for a divorce and a prenuptial agreement is in place. The documents say the former couple are “currently living in a bona fide state of separation,” and that their marriage is “irretrievably broken” with “no hope for reconciliation.”

The docs also say that the rapper wants to share joint legal custody of their almost 2-year old daughter, Monaco Mai Jenkins.

Jeannie and Jeezy announced their engagement in April 2020 on social media after secretly dating since 2018 and tied the knot in March 2021 at their home in Atlanta. The couple then welcomed their baby girl Monaco (Coco) in January 2020.

The pair celebrated their two-year anniversary in March with a surprise trip to Vietnam that Jeannie organized for her husband as a “long-awaited adventure.”

Jeezy had initially planned to pop the question in Hoi An, Vietnam in April 2020, but was forced to change his plans after COVID canceled the trip.

“When Jeezy proposed to me, he decorated his condo to look like Hoi An. It brought the memories of our engagement full circle when we were finally in Hoi An for the first time,” Jeannie said of their anniversary vacation.

This is the second divorce for Jeannie and the first for Jeezy. The rapper shares children(a boy and girl) with two other women. Jeezy’s first son, Jadarius, was born in 1996 and his mother is Tynesha Dykes. Jadarius started following in his father’s footsteps as a rapper under the name YB Landlord.  Jeezy’s second child was born in February 2014. He welcomed her with his former girlfriend Mahlet “Mahi” Gebremedhin.

Back to Jeannie and Jeezy, neither one of them has spoken out publicly about their separation; however, Jezzy posted a cryptic post on Thursday.

He shared a photo of himself with the caption, “Too focused on who I’m becoming to focus on who’s not coming with me. ⛄️”

While Jeezy is focused on himself, his wife and daughter celebrate his book being on the New York Times bestseller list. Last week, Jeannie shared a post of the mother-daughter duo praying for the rapper turned author.

The caption read, “Today I celebrate a remarkable milestone achieved by my husband, @jeezy, whose memoir ‘Adversity For Sale’ has soared to the New York Times bestsellers list. 📚”

She continued, “Your story has always been an inspiration to me, but seeing it in print has left me even more in awe of your strength and wisdom. You invited us into the most intimate corners of your life, where pain and triumph coexist. This moment isn’t just a testament to your literary skills baby, but a recognition of your ability to inspire through the power of storytelling.”

“Jeannie concluded, “I’m endlessly grateful for your voice in this world. Honored to walk beside you my love🖤 #newyorktimesbestseller #adversityforsale

Jeezy commented under the post with two red hearts.

Since the couple went public, Jeannie has been very open and vocal about her relationship with Jeezy. She shared how much she enjoyed dating him and that marriage life was “1,000 percent different” than dating, “in the greatest way.”

“I loved our dating life because we really spent such concentrated quality time getting to know each other and making sure that we were right for each other,” she said. “And now being married, it’s even more handled with such delicacy and such thoughtfulness, because we’re in our 40s and we both grew up in households that weren’t healthy marriages. We have never seen what that looks like.”

Jeezy on the other hand, has been sort of silent when it comes to his personal life.

No word on why the couple is calling it quits at this time, but we wish the best for the family moving forward.
