Actor Darius McCrary, best known for his role as Eddie Winslow on the 1990s sitcom Family Matters, was released from jail on December 8, 2025 — almost two months after his October arrest on an out-of-state warrant tied to unpaid child support.
McCrary was initially taken into custody by U.S. Border Patrol on October 5 near the U.S.–Mexico border in San Diego, where he was held without bail. According to PEOPLE, prosecutors in Michigan said the warrant stemmed from a missed court appearance in a long-standing child-support dispute. He was subsequently extradited to Michigan at the end of October.
According to court records, McCrary entered a no-contest plea to five felony counts related to unpaid child support. Sentencing is scheduled for February 2026.
McCrary’s public defender, Paulette Loftin, called the plea deal and release “a resolution reached today” that allows him “to correct the misleading narrative and put this matter behind him.” She added that the outcome underscores McCrary’s commitment to family.
The release ends one chapter in a legal saga that dates back years. The actor had previously been arrested on multiple occasions for failure to pay child support, including a 2023 case in which he reportedly owed more than $52,000.
Despite the relinquishment of his freedom, McCrary remains under supervision as he awaits his February court hearing. Supporters and critics alike will be watching closely to see how the case concludes — and whether the actor will indeed “put this matter behind him,” as his legal team has stated.
