The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) has begun unveiling the first round of nominations, and CBS’s Beyond the Gates is already making a major impact. The groundbreaking daytime drama has earned multiple nominations, including a historic achievement that is changing the face of daytime television.
For the first time in Daytime Emmy history, two Black actresses have been nominated for Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series in the same year. Tamara Tunie and Karla Mosley, stars of Beyond the Gates, become only the third and fourth Black actresses ever nominated in the category.
The pair joins fellow nominees Stacy Haiduk (Days of Our Lives), Michelle Stafford (The Young and the Restless), and Heather Tom (The Bold and the Beautiful).
The nominations mark the first-ever Daytime Emmy recognition for Beyond the Gates, the first new network daytime soap opera to debut in decades.
Clifton Davis Surprisingly Left Off Lead Actor List
While Beyond the Gates celebrated several major nominations, many fans were surprised that leading man Clifton Davis was not recognized in the Outstanding Lead Performer category.
