Former NFL Player Chris Payton-Jones Dies in Florida Car Crash at 30

Former National Football League defensive back Chris Payton-Jones has died at the age of 30 following a tragic car crash in Florida, authorities confirmed.

According to reports, the accident occurred Saturday night in Alachua County when the vehicle Payton-Jones was driving collided head-on with a pickup truck. He was pronounced dead at the scene, while three occupants in the other vehicle suffered only minor injuries.

Officials say the crash involved a sedan and a pickup truck, and Payton-Jones was the sole fatality. Investigations into the cause of the collision are ongoing.

Payton-Jones, a Jacksonville native, built a professional football career that included stints with multiple NFL teams, including the Detroit Lions, Minnesota Vikings, Tennessee Titans, and Las Vegas Raiders. Over six seasons, he appeared in 29 games, recording 48 tackles and seven passes defended.

After his time in the NFL, he continued his football journey in alternative leagues, including the XFL and later the United Football League, where he played for the St. Louis Battlehawks.
