Veteran Actress Dee Freeman Dies at 66 Following Cancer Battle

Veteran television actress Dee Freeman, known for her appearances in popular series including The Young and the Restless and Sistas, has passed away at the age of 66.

Freeman died peacefully on April 2, 2026, after battling stage 4 lung cancer, according to statements released by her publicist and family. Her loved ones confirmed the news in an emotional social media tribute, describing her as a “force of nature” who faced her illness with courage and grace.

Born in Louisiana in 1959, Freeman lived a multifaceted life before entering the entertainment industry. She served six years in the U.S. Marine Corps and also worked as a radio DJ in Japan before transitioning into acting in the mid-1990s.

Her acting career began with a role on the sitcom Coach in 1995 and went on to span decades, including appearances in hit shows such as Seinfeld, ER, The X-Files, Dexter, Shameless, and NCIS: Los Angeles. She also starred in Pretty the Series from 2010 to 2015 and most recently appeared in Sistas in early 2026.

Beyond television, Freeman built a strong presence in theater, performing in dozens of stage productions and earning respect for her commanding performances and authenticity.
