Tyler Perry is officially bringing one of his most beloved film franchises back to the screen. Netflix released the first teaser trailer for Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married Again? on Thursday, giving fans their first look at the long-awaited third installment in the popular relationship drama series.

The new film will premiere exclusively on Netflix on September 9, 2026, nearly 16 years after the release of Why Did I Get Married Too? in 2010.
The sequel reunites many of the franchise’s original stars, including Tyler Perry, Jill Scott, Michael Jai White, Tasha Smith, Sharon Leal, Richard T. Jones, and Lamman Rucker. Joining the cast is longtime Perry collaborator Taraji P. Henson, who plays Roselyn, the mother of the groom.

This time, the story takes the group to the breathtaking shores of Lake Como, where the adult children of the original characters gather for a destination wedding. While the celebration brings everyone back together, it also forces the longtime friends to reflect on their marriages, the lessons they’ve passed down to their children, and whether they’ve truly grown since audiences last saw them.
The teaser hints at the signature mix of heartfelt emotion, family drama, romance, and comedy that made the first two films fan favorites. It also showcases the stunning Italian setting while teasing new relationship conflicts and emotional reunions.

Perry wrote, directed, produced, and stars in the film, continuing the franchise that first captivated audiences with Why Did I Get Married? in 2007 and its 2010 sequel. According to Perry, filming wasn’t without challenges—he recently revealed he worked through a broken collarbone sustained just weeks before production began.

Fans have waited years to revisit these beloved characters, and with the teaser now released, the countdown is officially on.
