Things You Should Know About The Coronavirus

There has been a lot of talk about the coronavirus. On March 11, President Donald Trump announced a “state of emergency,” from the Oval Office. The World Health Center has declared it a pandemic, which is worse than an epidemic.

“You treat this like the flu,” Trump told citizens. Wash your hands, avoid hand shaking, wipe down surfaces with disinfectant wipes, start social distancing, cover your mouth when coughing and sneezing. If you’d like to take extra precautions invest in gloves, face-masks and prepare emergency kits, CDC.gov informs citizens. 

The likelihood of youth fatally is low. “The majority [80%] of infections are mild.” 56% of people recover. Only 3.5% die Those infected “aged 60+ are most at risk [of death]” and “those with existing conditions [have] serious ailments {of death} according to the China Center for Disease Control & Prevention, Statistic 

Over 100 US schools have closed person to person classes. Harvard, Duke, Georgetown, Notre Dame, and El Camino Community College have canceled in person classes. The NBA has cancelled all games until further notice after NBA player Rudy Gobert tested positive for the virus.

Tom Hanks and wife Rita Wilson have also tested positive, according to MSNBC.

The stock market has dropped 14 million points. In the USA California, Oregon, and counties in Washington State has banned all gatherings over 250,000 people. The US has banned travel to 26 countries in Europe effective immediately. Italy’s government has shut down the cities. Its citizens have been instructed to stay indoors. All stores, except for pharmacies and food stores have closed. Twitter employees will work from home, according to MSNBC. Stores are sold out of water and people are buying up Vitamin C supplements, according to Amazon Shopper, Crystal M.

Financial Times has ranked the US 8th with the most cases of COVID-19. The US has only tested 5,000 people according to Reuters. The US has yet to get testing kits and begin mass testing. South Korea and other countries have driven through coronavirus testing stations, according to ABC News. As of March 10th Washington, state has 366 cases this number is climbing, according to The News Tribune. Five deaths have been reported in nursing homes and long-term facilities. Every infected person on average infects 2-3 others, according to MSNBC.

Dr. Brian Monahan, the attending physician of congress and the US Supreme Court, said “he expected 70 million to 150 million people in the United States will become infected with COVID-19 NBC News reported Wednesday.”
