Former child star Bobb’e J. Thompson, best known for his role as Stanley on Disney Channel’s That’s So Raven, has been sentenced to 30 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Thompson, 30, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Leonard T. Strand in Sioux City, Iowa. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Iowa, the sentence follows his guilty plea entered on April 28, 2026. He will also serve three years of supervised release after completing his prison sentence. Federal inmates are not eligible for parole.
The case stems from a September 22, 2025, traffic stop in Cerro Gordo County, Iowa. Authorities said Thompson was observed driving 104 mph in a 70-mph zone. When law enforcement approached the vehicle, an officer reportedly saw Thompson and a passenger switching seats. Officers also reported smelling marijuana coming from the vehicle.
During a search, authorities found a backpack belonging to Thompson containing multiple bags of marijuana purchased from a dispensary and a fully loaded .40-caliber handgun. The firearm reportedly had a 15-round magazine with a round in the chamber and had previously been reported stolen from a vehicle in Kansas City, Missouri.
Federal prosecutors also cited Thompson’s previous criminal history, which includes 2020 convictions for battery causing serious bodily injury and assault with force, as well as a 2022 conviction for prohibited possession of a firearm.
Thompson is currently being held in U.S. Marshals custody while awaiting transfer to a federal prison.
Before his legal troubles, Thompson built a successful career as a child actor. In addition to playing Stanley on That’s So Raven, he appeared in television shows including 30 Rock, Wild ’N Out, The Tracy Morgan Show and Tyler Perry’s House of Payne. His film credits include Role Models, Shark Tale, Fred Claus and Me and Earl and the Dying Girl.
Thompson also recently appeared in the 2026 film The Funny Thing About Love. His representatives had not immediately responded to request for comment as of its report.
