Teenage Girl Died In Dominican Republic After Stepping On Wire Barefoot On Beach
A 17-year old girl died on the final day of her family vacation after stepping on a naked wire while walking barefoot and leaving the beach.
Melina Caputa was killed after travelling to Punta Cana, a resort town in the Dominican Republic, with her grandparents and siblings.
The Argentine girl was heading back to her hotel with her brothers and cousins when she reportedly was electrocuted on a bridge.

According to reports, she was walking up some metal stairs onto the crossing when she allegedly came into contact with the bare wire.
Her father has now travelled to the resort to join his family after the incident.
Friends and family have posted touching messages on social media after news of the death broke.
Her friend Nicolas Baistrocchi wrote: “We both thought that if we were going to separate, it would be when we are old, but I never imagined that I was going to lose you so soon”.
Her brother Leandro wrote on his Instagram profile: “I saw you being born, I saw you growing up, I saw you fighting, I saw you crying, I saw you smiling, I saw you dreaming.
“I know you were a good-intentioned person, as you were always fighting for the defenceless, I apologise my love for not being able to do more to have you by my side”.
Melina was doing her sixth degree of orientation of Natural Sciences at a school in the city of San Juan in west-central Argentina.
She was active on social media and right before her tragic death, she posted a message on Instagram saying: “me voy despidiendo” which translates to “I am saying goodbye”.
Preliminary investigations claim that she died from cardio-respiratory failure but this has yet to be confirmed by autopsy.
The director of communication of the hotel chain Globalia, owner of Be Live of Bayahibe, where the family stayed, insisted there was no naked wiring on the premises.
The Dominican Republic has been in the center of mysterious deaths. At least 13 American tourist has died this year, with others claiming to become ill. There has also been reports of Domincan Republic deaths from other countries too.
The speculation is that people are dying after drinking from hotel mini-bars — drinks could potentially be tainted but that hasn’t been confirmed yet. The FBI is currently investigating.
As far as Melina’s death, this seems like it could have easily been avoided. There’s no reason this live wire should have been loose on public property where people relax with no shoes on. Surely the island couldn’t be this careless.
Our hearts go out to this family, especially her brother — who witnessed the horrific scene. Rest in peace, Melina.
