The basketball world is mourning the loss of streetball legend Taurian Fontenette, famously known as “Air Up There” and “Mr. 720,” who has died at the age of 43.
Fontenette’s sister, Tracie Sonnier, confirmed his passing in an emotional Facebook post, revealing that her younger brother died Monday night, November 2, 2026. His cause of death has not been publicly disclosed.
“My heart is broken in a million pieces,” Sonnier wrote, expressing the family’s devastating loss and asking for grace as they process his unexpected death.
Fontenette became a household name among streetball fans through his electrifying performances on the AND1 Mixtape Tour. Originally from Hitchcock, Texas, he first made a name for himself as a standout basketball player at Hitchcock High School before continuing his career at the collegiate level.
His journey to streetball fame began in 2005 when he was working security at a chemical plant and requested time off to audition for the AND1 Mixtape Tour. His extraordinary athleticism and jaw-dropping dunks quickly caught the attention of fans and earned him a spot on the team.

In 2006, Fontenette made basketball history during an AND1 Mixtape Tour game at Houston’s Toyota Center when he performed a spectacular 720-degree dunk, completing two full rotations in midair before throwing down the basketball. The incredible feat earned him the nickname “Mr. 720” and became one of the most memorable moments in streetball history. The dunk also caught national attention after being featured on ESPN’s SportsCenter Top 10.
Beyond his signature dunk, Fontenette was celebrated for his creativity, athleticism and influence on the evolution of professional dunking. His signature move, the “Axle-Rider,” a 360-degree, between-the-legs dunk, further demonstrated his extraordinary abilities.
Following his time with AND1, Fontenette continued performing with other streetball organizations, including Ball4Real and BallUp. He also pursued professional basketball opportunities.
His sister remembered him as much more than an extraordinary athlete, describing him as a one-of-a-kind soul, a basketball genius, the life of every party and someone whose generosity and presence touched countless lives.
Fontenette leaves behind a remarkable legacy that helped inspire a generation of basketball players and fans. His gravity-defying performances remain part of streetball history, and his impact on the game will not soon be forgotten.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Taurian Fontenette’s children, family, friends and everyone mourning his loss.
