10-Year-Old Malayshia Allford Found Dead in New Jersey; Foster Mother Charged With Murder

A heartbreaking search for a missing 10-year-old girl has ended in tragedy after Malayshia Allford was found dead inside the trunk of a vehicle in New Jersey. Her foster mother has since been charged with murder in connection with her death.

According to authorities, Allford had been missing since October 22 after last being seen at her home in West Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her disappearance prompted an extensive search involving local residents, Philadelphia police and the FBI.

Investigators announced that surveillance footage recovered from October 26 showed what authorities believe was a body being removed from the home in the early morning hours. The footage reportedly helped investigators identify a vehicle and locate a witness who ultimately led authorities to the child’s body.

On Wednesday, November 4, around 11 p.m., investigators discovered Allford inside the trunk of a vehicle near the Stonington Court Apartments in Lindenwold, New Jersey.

A medical examiner determined that the child’s cause of death was blunt force trauma, and her death was ruled a homicide. Prosecutors also revealed that investigators found indications of previous abuse and evidence suggesting objects may have been used to inflict injuries.

Allford’s foster mother, 36-year-old Caprice Williams, has been charged with murder, endangering the welfare of a child, reckless endangerment, tampering with evidence, abuse of a corpse, possession of an instrument of crime and criminal use of a communication facility.

Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner announced the charges on Thursday, November 5, as authorities vowed to pursue justice for the young girl.

Philadelphia Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel expressed the devastating loss during the announcement, emphasizing that Malayshia deserved to be protected, loved and given the opportunity to grow up.

The tragedy has devastated Malayshia’s biological family and members of the West Philadelphia community, many of whom participated in the search and held out hope for her safe return. Pink balloons, stuffed animals and other tributes have since appeared in her memory.

Authorities have not ruled out the possibility of additional charges as the investigation continues.

A young girl who deserved a childhood filled with love, safety and opportunity is now gone. Our thoughts and prayers are with Malayshia’s family, loved ones and everyone affected by this heartbreaking tragedy.
