Sherri Shepherd Mourns The Loss Of Her Dog Ashley

Sherri Shepherd mourns the loss of her dog Ashley.

Sherri Shepard shared a video of her preparing for the loss of her fur baby, Ashley. In the caption, she updated that Ashley passed away at home in her sleep.

The actress and TV personality revealed in an Instagram video post that her dog has cancer. Ashley has a tumor in her mouth that spread to the back of her throat.

Sherri said her dog also has nodules in her chest that are cancerous and her lymph nodes are inflamed.

The doctors informed her that there is nothing else they could do but give her medication for the pain.

Sherri said that the medication that was given has to be taken with food, but Ashley is no longer eating. She also said that she has some internal bleeding and isn’t as responsive.

Ashley was 14-years old, and for that reason along with the health concerns Sherri had decided to put her down and allow her to go to heaven — but Ashley went on her own.

Sherri adopted the black lab when she was only 3-years old from the Baker Bridge Rescue of Charleston, Tennessee.

The two had developed a tight bond. “My dog, she’s on me like white on rice – she’s like my shadow,” Sherri tells PEOPLE a few years ago. “Wherever I go, Ashley is right there.”

Sherri shared that she specifically wanted a black Lab because she had one that passed away at 12-years old. She also said there’s something called a ‘Black Dog Syndrome,’ which prompts her to adopt black dogs.

“Black dogs are the last to be adopted,” said Sherri. “Because when you take a picture of them in their cages, they look menacing behind the bars.”

Sherri had a scheduled flight, and was afraid Ashley wouldn’t make it when she returned. She didn’t specify where the flight is heading to but it has been recently reported that Sherri will be guest hosting the Wendy Williams Show again.

Sending love and condolences to Sherri and her family.
