R&B, Funk, And Jazz Singer Bernard Wright Is Dead At 58

One of the greatest soul musician, keyboardist, and jazz artist, Bernard Wright, passed away on May 19 at the age of 58.

His cause of death is yet to be revealed. One of his friends, guitarist and producer Billy “Spaceman” Patterson, issued this statement from Wright’s Facebook page

‘On behalf of the family of Bernard Wright (Nard), We are saddened to announce that yesterday. Bernard has been called home to the Most High. Many thanks for everyone’s support, encouragement, and prayers for Nard throughout the years. Please keep the family in your thoughts and prayers through this difficult time. Our hearts are heavy and our faith is strong. To be absent from the body is to be present with The Lord! LOVE! Rest In Power, Nard.’

At the tender age of 13, Wright toured with Lenny White and played with Tom Browne. In 1981, he released his debut LP ‘Nard, which became a huge hit on the jazz charts. He was only 18 years old. The album reached number 7 on the Jazz Albums chart in the US. Some of the hit singles included “Haboglabotribin” and “Just Chillin’ Out.” 

In 1985, the synthesizer sensation released a third album and best popular single entitled “Who Do You Love.” He actually peaked at number 6 in the billboard charts. Snoop Dogg, LL Cool J, Dr. Dre, Big Pun, 2 Pac, Skee-Lo, Tyrese, more have sampled the legend’s music. 

A multitude of people, including celebrities, paid tribute on social media to the talented entertainer.

R&B/soul icon Roberta Flack, who is also Wright’s godmother, also shared a special post on Twitter.

Bernard Wright was a genius, and he is truly appreciated for creating good music.
