Parole Canceled For Man Who Killed Michael Jordan’s Father

The North Carolina Post-Release Supervision and Parole Commission has canceled parole for one of the two men convicted of murdering Michael Jordan‘s father.

Initially, inmate Larry M. Demery had been granted for parole and was scheduled for release in 2023. It was then pushed to 2024, then finally canceled altogether.

The parole board didn’t explain the reasoning for the parole termination but did say he will get another shot around December 15, 2023.

Demery and Daniel Green were convicted of first-degree murder and armed robbery in connection to the 1993 killing of the NBA legend’s father James Jordan.

Prosecutors said that Jordan was robbed and killed in his car while he slept on the side of the road off US Highway 74 in Lumberton, North Carolina, near Interstate 95.

Jordan’s body was found 11 days later in a South Carolina swamp and identified using dental records.

Demery and Green were both 18-years old at the time. They were given life sentences.

Greg Thomas, a state Department of Public Safety spokesperson explained, “generally speaking, a Mutual Agreement Parole Program agreement may be terminated if the prisoner isn’t following program guidelines or is violating behavior rules behind bars.

Prison records show Demery has had 19 infractions lodged against him since 2001, including two for ‘substance possession’ earlier this month.

After Jordan’s father was murdered, the emotional toll it took on the basketball legend caused him to retire on October 1993.

Overall, Jordan won six NBA championships during his 15 seasons in the league with his dad by his side at almost every moment.
