Netflix Series About Colin Kaepernick’s Life And Activism Is In The Works

Netflix, Ava Duvernay, and Colin Kaepernick are teaming up for a series entitled Black & White, which will lay out the story of Colin Kapernick’s life and activism.

Colin Kaepernick is a former NFL star, who was black-balled from the league after silently protesting against police brutality. His protest consisted of taking a knee during the National Anthem. Both Trump and NFL owners allegedly colluded to keep him out of the league. A lawsuit for their actions is underway.

In the meantime Kaepernick has found love within the film-activist community. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Netflix gave him a contract for a 6-episode series with director Duvernay. She is widely known for activist and black empowerment films like When They See Us.

Emmy nominee, Michael Starrbury will script and exec produce the season. He collaborated with Duvernay before on When They See Us. He too has a record of activist themed films.

Black & White will follow a younger Kaepernick through high school and experiences that lead him to activism. It will shed a light on the adopted black boy being raised by a white family, in a white school. Kaepernick will narrate the story but a younger man will play the young quarterback.

Kaepernick shared his gratitude on Instagram.

Ava also shared the joy she felt making this film with the cast and crew.

The drama was conceived in 2019 and completed the scripts in May 2020, according to Netflix. Like many projects, Black & White has been postponed due to COVID-19. No plans of resuming or release dates have been shared with the public.
