‘Maury’ Show Ending After 31 Years On TV

The long-running daytime talk show series Maury is coming to an end after 31 years on television, according to Broadcasting+Cable.

The series, which is hosted by TV veteran Maury Povich, will cease production this spring and original episodes will air until September 2022. The network will continue showing reruns following the last show.

No word on why the show is being canceled, but if we had to guess it may be because of ratings. It has been challenging for some TV productions to bounce back after the COVID-19 pandemic. Many shows resort to guests and studio audiences on video calls, but the experience isn’t the same.

Maury began in 1991 as The Maury Povich Show, before its title was shortened in 1998. Maury touched on many hot topics including airing paternity tests results. Maury’s “You Are Not the Father,” saying became a notable catchphrase.

Povich began his career as a radio reporter in Washington D.C. before achieving national fame as the host of A Current Affair in 1986. He stayed with the series until his departure in 1990.

In May of 2016, the show celebrated a huge milestone as it marked its 3,000th episode.

Maury is only one of a few shows that have been canceled this year. We recently reported that The Nick Cannon Show will conclude after only one season, and the Wendy Williams Show is ending after 13 seasons. Sherri, which will be hosted by Sherri Shepherd will take Wendy’s time slot.

Best wishes to Maury and his team as they move on to the next chapter in their lives. Thank you for keeping us all entertained over the years.
