Jalen Hurts and Patrick Mahomes To Be The First Black Quarterbacks To Face-Off In Superbowl History

The Philadelphia Eagles’, Jalen Hurts, and Kansas City Chiefs, Patrick Mahomes, will face off in Superbowl LVII. For the first time ever, two Black starting quarterbacks will go head-to-head in the championship.

Mahomes, 27, could also break history again for being the first Black quarterback to have multiple Super Bowl wins. This is if he leads the Kansas City Chiefs to victory over the Philadelphia Eagles on February 12th. Hurts, 24, will be the 4th Black quarterback to win a Superbowl if he leads the Philadelphia Eagles to victory. Hurts would join Williams, Mahomes, and Russel Wilson.

The road was not easy for Mahomes to make it this far in the season. He was able to push through the game with an ankle injury on Sunday, with their game against the Cincinnati Bengals. The chiefs were ultimately able to claim the AFC championship title with a score of 23-20. Mahomes had a great performance while finishing with two touchdowns and throwing for 326 yards.

Jalen had a good performance on Sunday as well, finishing with 15 of 25 passes for 121 yards. His highlight of the game was that he rushed 39 yards during the game and one score on 11 carries, according to reports. Hurts surpassed Cam Newton for the most rushing touchdowns in a single season by a quarterback during that game. The Eagles’ game against the San Fransisco 49ers ended with a magnificent score of 31-7, giving them the NFC Championship title.

Kansas City Chiefs’ last Superbowl appearance was in 2021, where they lost against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Superbowl LV. The Philadelphia Eagles’ last appearance was in 2017 when they defeated the New England Patriots at Superbowl LII.
