Hip Hop Legend Slick Rick To Receive Lifetime Achievement Award At the Grammys

A well-deserved honor is about to unfold. The Recording Academy announced that hip hop pioneer rapper Slick Rick will be honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Grammys.

Slick Rick, real name Richard Martin Lloyd Walters, is one of the greatest hip hop storytellers of all time in royalty culture.

He was born on January 14, 1965, in the southwest London district of Mitcham. When he was 11 years old, the family decided to relocate to the United States, specifically the Bronx area.

In 1986, Rick signed with Russell Simmons’s Rush Artist Management and Def Jam Records. He released his debut album entitled “The Great Adventures Of Slick Rick” with the bedtime national anthem “Children’s Story.”

Some of Slick’s collective work to date is “The Ruler’s Back,” “Behind Bars” and “The Art Of Storytelling.” He is actually the most sampled hip-hop artist ever. 

On October 6, 2008, Slick Rick was honored on the VH1 Hip Hop Honors show, and in 2018, he was recognized on the Bronx Walk Of Fame.

Artists Bobby McFerrinNirvana, Ma Rainey, Nile Rodgersthe Supremes, Ann Wilson and Nancy Wilson of Heart will also receive the honor.
