Over the weekend, legendary Dallas Cowboys running back Emmitt Smith revealed some unfortunate information about his personal life. In an Instagram post, Smith announced that he and his wife Patricia Southall Smith were separating after 20 years of marriage.

In a joint statement, the two agreed they would continue to raise their children together, as well as run their various businesses and charities.

It’s our 20h Wedding Anniversary!!!♥️ First of all, I give all the glory to God for today!!! I’ll be honest, I’ve had so many thoughts and emotions today…I decided to just let it flow!!! Thank You Baby for your willingness to do the joint work needed in marriage!! 20 years doesn’t come without a lot work, prayer and a fight to stay together!!! They have three children together Emmitt James IV, Skylar, and Elijah Alexander. Emmit also shares daughter Rheagen Smith with ex-girlfriend Hope Wilson. He’s also stepfather to Pat’s daughter Jasmine Page Lawrence, who she shares with ex-husband actor and comedian Martin Lawrence.
