Doogie Howser” And General Hospital” Star Rif Hutton Has Died At 73

We are heartbroken over the loss of acclaimed actor Rif Hutton, who has passed away at the age of 73.

Best known for his roles on Doogie Howser, M.D. and General Hospital, Hutton died Saturday at his home in Pasadena after a year-long battle with Glioblastoma. He was surrounded by loved ones, according to his family.

His passing was confirmed to TMZ and shared by friends, including voice-over colleague Steve Apostolina, who paid tribute, saying:

“A remarkable human being has left this earthly plane… To say that Rif Hutton was one of a kind is a gross understatement.”

Hutton was widely recognized for his recurring role as Dr. Ron Welch on Doogie Howser, M.D., a series that helped launch the career of Neil Patrick Harris. He also appeared in JAG and built an extensive career across television, film, and voice acting.

His voice work spanned major animated hits, including Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, as well as beloved franchises like ShrekKung Fu PandaHow to Train Your DragonRioIce AgeHotel Transylvania, and Angry Birds.

A graduate of Seton Hall University and a veteran of the U.S. Navy, Hutton appeared in numerous classic series such as The JeffersonsNight CourtSeinfeldERBuffy the Vampire Slayer, and Monk. He also appeared in films like Stand and Deliver alongside Edward James Olmos.

He is survived by his wife, voice actress Bridget Hoffman, and their son, Wolfgang.
