Daycare Owner Shoots Husband For Allegedly Molesting Children At Her Center

A daycare owner was arrested Thursday night after shooting her husband who allegedly molested children at the center she runs.

According to CBS News, the woman is the owner of Lil Kidz Kastle Daycare Center in Owings Mills, Maryland.

Per court documents, Shanteari Weems, 50, of Randallstown, Maryland, reportedly shot her husband and then barricaded herself in a room at Mandarin Oriental in Southwest D.C. The incident resulted into a police standoff that started around 7:40 p.m. and ended at approximately 8:30 p.m.

Video footage of Weems arrest was captured by a neighbor.

After wounding her husband of 5 years, a report filed stated that she threatened to shoot herself. Officers confiscated two guns at the scene.

The court affidavit revealed that Weems told authorities her motive for shooting him was that he was “a child molester.” She claimed she was told this by the children and received calls from their parents.

Police additionally found a letter in the room, persistent in her claim. Weems also allegedly wrote that she hoped to bring justice to the children by paralyzing her husband.

She says after confronting him, an argument ensued and the situation turned violent as he walked toward her, but then she drew the gun.

“Due to the sensitive circumstances leading up to this incident, the Baltimore County Police Department continues supporting the impacted families. As this investigation moves forward, the daycare facility remains closed,” said Baltimore County Police in a statement.

Weems is in custody without bond. She is due in court Monday.
