2 Killed, At Least 5 Injured In Shooting At Park In San Pedro

Two people were killed and five others injured when gunfire broke out in a San Pedro park Sunday.

Witnesses waiting near yellow crime tape said there was a car show and a community baseball game, with children in attendance, happening at the park when multiple gunshots rang out.

At an evening news conference,  LAPD Capt. Kelly Muniz said the casualties were reported at the baseball diamond. Four men and three women were wounded by gunfire, with two dying. The names of those killed were not immediately made public. Some 500 people were in the park at the time, police said.

The shooting was a described as a dispute between at least two parties and investigators think more than one shooter may have been involved.

“The original call came out as having multiple shooting victims on the baseball diamond at Peck Park. As we speak here, this is an ongoing, active crime scene, and we are continuing to clear the park for evidence and potentially additional victims,” Muniz said. “We don’t know exactly how many shooters we have at this point.”

According to the LAPD Twitter account, detectives are working on the crime scene and the park will remain closed until their preliminary investigation is over.

No suspects are in custody at this time. Officers are asking anyone with information regarding this shooting, to contact the South Bureau Homicide Division at 323-786-5110.
