Arrest Warrant Issued for the Death of Shanquella Robinson

Mexican authorities have issued an arrest warrant in the death of Shanquella Robinson, a 25-year old Charlotte woman who was killed in Mexico last month.

A Mexican prosecutor says the warrant was issued for Shanquella’s “friend,” who was identified as the direct aggressor in events that occurred on Oct. 29.

Mexican authorities have since issued a press release, saying that investigations and test data indicate that Shanquella’s death was due to a “direct attack, not from an accident.”According to her family, Shanquella went on a trip to Cabo with a group of people who she considered friends on Oct. 28 and never returned home.

Her parents were initially told by others on the trip that she had gotten sick with alcohol poisoning. After Shanquella died, the family says they were told by Mexican authorities that alcohol poisoning was determined as the cause of her death.

Despite the alleged reports, her death certificate from Mexico suggests a different story, saying she died due to a severe spinal cord injury.

Following the mixed stories, a video circulating social media shows Shanquella being beaten inside a hotel room. Last week, the FBI said that they “opened an investigation in the death of Robinson.”

ABC News spoke to Shanquella’s mother, Salamondra Robinson, on Wednesday following the news of the arrest warrant. “I feel so good, that’s a good feeling.” Her mother added, “That’s what we have been waiting for, for someone to finally be held accountable and arrested. I just can’t wait for justice to be served.”

GoFundMe page for Shanquella is available to help her family with legal feed. NBA player Kyrie Irving led the generous giving by donating $65,000. As of Thursday, the page has raised over $375,000.
