Anthony Johnson, Comedian and “Friday” Actor Has Died

The entertainment industry has suffered another loss.

Actor and comedian Anthony “A.J.” Johnson has passed away at the age of 55.

According to TMZ, Johnson’s nephew revealed that he “was found lifeless in a store earlier this month (Sept.6) in Los Angeles and rushed to a hospital. He was then pronounced dead. No other information surrounding Johnson’s death was released.

“The world of comedy has truly been shaken, again. Our BH Talent family is heartbroken about the loss of the iconic legend of stage and screen Mr. Anthony ‘AJ’ Johnson,” representative LyNea Bell in a statement to CNN News.

He has left with us amazing memories of his laughter, dynamic acting skills, but most of all his enormous personality and heart of gold. We will be in constant prayer for his entire family including his wife Lexis, three children, brother Edward ‘Peanut’ Smith, sister Sheila, and lifetime manager and friend Mike D. Please give them the time they need to process and grieve such a huge loss.”

Johnson appeared in several features: House Party, Lethal Weapon 3, Menace II Society, The Great White Hype, Baps, How To Be A Player, I Got The Hook Up, Moesha, The Jamie Foxx Show, Martin, Malcolm And Eddie, and many more.

His most memorable role was in Ice Cube’s classic movie, Friday. Johnson’s character Ezal, the crack-addicted thief, brought much laughter to the film.

Following the news of Johnson’s death, celebrities and fans paid tribute to him on social media. Legendary rapper and Friday co-writer Ice Cube mourns the loss as well.

On July 31, 2017, Johnson had a panic attack at LaGuardia Airport in New York on his way to a comedy show. It is not known if his issues with anxiety are linked to his death.
