Christy Knowings, the actress best known for her memorable run on Nickelodeon’s beloved sketch-comedy series All That, has died at the age of 46.
Knowings died Tuesday night, August 11, at a Los Angeles-area hospital after suffering a severe asthma attack that resulted in brain damage, according to TMZ. She had been hospitalized since Friday, August 7, and was placed on life support. Her family ultimately made the difficult decision to remove her from life support Tuesday.
Knowings became a familiar face to a generation of Nickelodeon viewers during her time on All That, appearing on the series from 1997 to 2000. She showcased her comedic versatility by portraying a variety of characters, including Gloria Bankhead, Brenda Stone, Nancy and Jessica.
Beyond All That, Knowings continued working in entertainment. She appeared on Sesame Street alongside her twin brother, Chris Knowings, and had a role in the 2009 film Mother and Child.
Her unexpected death has prompted an outpouring of tributes from former castmates and fans.
Kenan Thompson, who worked alongside Knowings on All That and went on to become a longtime Saturday Night Live cast member, shared an emotional tribute on social media. Thompson described Knowings as “one of the funniest people out here” and expressed his love for her family, adding that he would miss his former co-star.
