A heartbreaking tragedy has claimed the lives of two young brothers, 5-year-old Elijah and 3-year-old Kashh, in Daytona Beach, Florida.
The boys were reported missing on Saturday, October 10, prompting a search by authorities. Hours later, a dive team discovered their bodies in a nearby retention pond.
According to Daytona Beach Police Chief Jakari Young, investigators reviewed surveillance footage that showed the boys near the pond before they entered the water. Authorities believe the children left their apartment while their mother was taking a brief nap. The boys’ mother reportedly discovered they were missing after waking up and began searching for them.
Police currently believe the deaths were accidental, and investigators have reported no obvious signs of foul play. The case has been referred to the State Attorney’s Office to determine whether any charges are warranted.
The devastating loss has also sparked concerns among community members about the lack of fencing around nearby retention ponds and the need for additional safety measures to protect children.
Our hearts go out to the boys’ mother, family, and everyone affected by this unimaginable loss. May they find strength, comfort, and support during this incredibly difficult time.
Y’all Know What extends its deepest condolences to the family of Elijah and Kashh.
