17-Year-Old McDonald’s Employee Reginald “RJ” Harrell Fatally Stabbed by 16-Year-Old Coworker on His Day Off

A Texas family is grieving the devastating loss of 17-year-old Reginald “RJ” Harrell, a high school senior who was allegedly stabbed to death by a 16-year-old coworker at McDonald’s while working on what was supposed to be his day off.

Harrell was killed Wednesday night, October 7, 2026, at a McDonald’s restaurant on Louetta Road in northwest Harris County, Texas. Authorities said the two teenagers, who both worked at the restaurant, were involved in an altercation that allegedly escalated into a fatal stabbing.

According to reports, deputies responded to the restaurant around 11:30 p.m. and found Harrell suffering from multiple stab wounds inside the restroom. Emergency responders attempted lifesaving measures, but the teenager was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 16-year-old suspect was detained and later charged with murder. Because the suspect is a juvenile, authorities have not publicly released his identity. He was booked into the Harris County Juvenile Detention Center as the investigation continues. Officials have not publicly established what led to the confrontation.

A Family Left Heartbroken

Harrell was a senior at Cypress Creek High School with plans to become a welder after graduation. His future was cut short in a tragedy his family says is difficult to comprehend, especially knowing he was working on a day he was not originally supposed to be on the job.

His mother, Denisha Dennis, expressed her grief and called for justice for her son.

“I want the kid responsible, I want justice for my son, because I don’t have my son no more,” she told KHOU 11. “He was only 17.”

Harrell’s sister, Kourtnee Dennis, also spoke about the pain of losing her brother so suddenly. She said she never imagined that the last time he left home for work would be the last time she would see or speak with him.

McDonald’s Responds to the Tragedy

The restaurant was temporarily closed following the stabbing as cleanup took place. Franchise owner Michael Gutierrez expressed condolences to Harrell’s loved ones and acknowledged the impact the incident has had on employees.

“We are saddened by this tragedy, and our hearts are with the victim’s loved ones and all those impacted,” Gutierrez said in a statement. He added that the company’s immediate focus was supporting employees as they process the events and that it was cooperating with law enforcement.

The case remains under investigation. The allegations against the juvenile suspect have not been proven in court.

Y’all Know What extends heartfelt condolences to Reginald “RJ” Harrell’s mother, sister, family, friends and everyone who loved him. Losing a child so young is an unimaginable heartbreak, and our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones as they seek answers and justice. 🕊️💔🙏🏽

A young man with plans for his future is gone far too soon. May RJ be remembered for the life he had ahead of him, not only for the tragic circumstances of his death.
