Music legend Lionel Richie is recovering after being hospitalized in St. Louis, Missouri, following his Saturday night concert at The Muny on August 29.
According to reports, Richie checked himself into a local hospital after becoming ill during the performance. He was admitted to the intensive care unit so doctors could run tests. His hospitalization was reportedly related to slight dehydration, and he is expected to be discharged as early as Tuesday.
During his final song, the classic hit “All Night Long,” Richie reportedly asked his team to bring him a chair or stool so he could sit while performing. Despite the health scare, a source close to the singer told Rolling Stone that Richie is OK and recovering.
The 77-year-old singer previously experienced a similar health scare in June when he became dizzy during a concert in St. Paul, Minnesota. Richie ended that performance early and later postponed shows while doctors advised him to rest and return to full health.
Richie is expected to have some time to recover before returning to the stage. His next listed performance is September 26 in San Francisco, followed by additional shows and his “King of Hearts” Las Vegas residency in October and November.
Meanwhile, Earth, Wind & Fire drummer John Paris, 58, is also facing a serious health battle. Paris was hospitalized on August 6 after what his family described as a critical medical emergency and has reportedly been placed in a medically induced coma.
The emergency happened shortly before Earth, Wind & Fire was scheduled to perform with Lionel Richie at San Francisco’s Chase Center. The concert was postponed just minutes before showtime after the band announced a medical emergency involving a member of the group.
