The family of late soul legend Bobby Womack is mourning a tragic loss after the singer’s brother, Friendly Womack Jr., was involved in a deadly car crash in Arkansas that claimed the life of his wife, Elaine Womack.

According to reports, the accident happened last Friday night in Little Rock and involved three vehicles. Authorities say deputies from the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene, where Elaine Womack was found dead inside one of the cars. Other people involved in the crash reportedly suffered only minor injuries or were unharmed.
TMZ reported that Friendly Womack Jr.’s grandson, Martice, confirmed that Friendly survived the crash and is physically okay following the incident. Police are continuing to investigate the cause of the collision.

The tragedy adds another heartbreaking chapter to the Womack family’s long and complicated history in music and personal loss. Bobby Womack, who died in 2014 at the age of 70, was one of R&B and soul music’s most influential voices, known for classics including “Across 110th Street,” “If You Think You’re Lonely Now,” and “Woman’s Gotta Have It.” He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2009.

Friendly Womack Jr. was one of Bobby’s brothers from the famed Womack musical family, which also included Cecil and Curtis Womack. The brothers originally performed together as part of the gospel and soul group The Valentinos before Bobby launched his successful solo career.
