Family Mourns 4-Year-Old Boy Killed by Amazon Delivery Truck in Kansas City

A Kansas City family is grieving the devastating loss of their 4-year-old son, who was struck and killed Monday evening by a delivery vehicle operated for Amazon, according to authorities.

Police say the incident happened around 6:30 p.m. in the 1800 block of East 3rd Terrace near a park, where the child—identified as Tadens Joseph—had been playing in a grassy area before entering the roadway. The Amazon delivery driver had just completed a package drop-off and was traveling westbound when the child was struck.

Emergency responders were called to the scene, but the young boy died from his injuries.

Investigators say the driver initially stopped but left before officers arrived. A family member reportedly followed the vehicle and informed the driver of what had happened, but the driver denied involvement and drove away.

By Tuesday, police had identified a person of interest who was taken into custody as the investigation continues. Authorities are working with prosecutors and reviewing evidence, including witness statements and possible video footage, to determine whether charges will be filed.

The child’s family described Tadens as a joyful boy who loved Spider-Man, school, and pizza. In a heartbreaking detail, relatives said a pizza meant for him the night of the tragedy remained untouched in their home—a painful reminder of the life lost too soon.

In a statement, Amazon expressed condolences, saying the company is “deeply saddened” and is cooperating fully with the investigation.

The tragic death marks one of dozens of traffic fatalities in Kansas City this year and has renewed concerns among residents about safety near parks and residential streets.

As the investigation unfolds, the community continues to rally around the grieving family, remembering a young boy whose life ended far too soon.
