Legendary actor Keith David is set to bring his commanding presence to television once again. The Emmy-winning performer has joined Jake Johnson in a new untitled comedy pilot at NBC centered around a quirky private detective agency in Los Angeles.
The single-camera workplace comedy comes from Brooklyn Nine-Nine co-creator Dan Goor and executive producer Luke Del Tredici, with filmmaker Akiva Schaffer attached to direct and executive produce the pilot.
The untitled half-hour series will follow the day-to-day chaos inside a Los Angeles detective agency as it juggles strange cases, office drama, and the eccentric personalities that come with the private investigator lifestyle. The show blends classic noir-style detective storytelling with modern comedic banter.
Johnson will lead the cast as Mickey Wilder, a former LAPD officer who has traded in his badge for life as a private investigator. Known for his laid-back attitude and quick wit, Mickey approaches cases with humor while navigating the unpredictable world of private investigations.
David will portray Garner Taggert, the tough and seasoned boss who runs the Taggert PI Agency. Mickey works alongside Taggert’s son Mitch, with the pair serving as the firm’s primary investigators while reporting to the no-nonsense agency head.
David is widely respected for his decades-long career spanning film, television, and voice acting. The actor has earned three Emmy Awards for voiceover work in The War, Unforgivable Blackness: The Rise And Fall Of Jack Johnson, and Jackie Robinson.
With more than 300 acting credits, David is known for memorable roles in films like Platoon, They Live, Dead Presidents, Armageddon, Requiem For A Dream, and Nope as well as television projects including Greenleaf.
The prolific actor continues to stay busy on the small screen. David currently stars in the Civil War espionage drama The Gray House on Prime Video and appears as Marty Brunner in the modern noir series The Lowdown on Hulu.
As of March 2026, the NBC project remains in the pilot stage after being announced on March 10. The series has not yet been officially ordered to series, and a title has not been revealed. If picked up, the show would add another major television role to David’s already legendary career. 🎬📺
