R&B icon Montell Jordan, best known for his 1995 hit “This Is How We Do It,” shared powerful news with fans on social media this week: he is officially cancer-free following a second battle with prostate cancer.
In a video shared on Instagram, the singer and pastor expressed gratitude, relief, and hope as he marked the end of a long and emotional health journey. Though he initially disclosed his diagnosis privately in 2024, Jordan kept much of his treatment out of the public eye until now.
“My family and I have been through one of the toughest chapters of our lives,” Jordan said in the clip. “But today I stand here cancer-free and full of thankfulness for the love and support that carried me through.”
A Long Road to Recovery
Jordan’s fight began in early 2024 following a routine screening that revealed elevated prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels. He underwent surgery later that year to remove his prostate. Initially declared cancer-free, subsequent scans discovered the disease had returned in nearby lymph nodes, extending his treatment journey into 2025.
Through surgery, radiation, and multiple rounds of care, Jordan remained focused on both healing and raising awareness about prostate cancer — especially among Black men, who statistically face higher risk and mortality from the disease.
Using His Voice for Awareness
Beyond his personal recovery, Jordan has become an outspoken advocate for early detection and screening. He partnered with ZERO Prostate Cancer earlier this year as a global ambassador to encourage men everywhere to be proactive about their health.
Part of that advocacy includes a forthcoming documentary, Sustain, which chronicles his cancer journey from diagnosis through treatment and recovery, and is expected to debut in 2026 alongside a national tour celebrating the 30th anniversary of “This Is How We Do It.”
“Early detection saved my life,” Jordan has said in past interviews. “And if my story helps save another — especially men who might be silent about their health — then it’s worth telling.”
Fans and Community Respond
Since sharing the news, fans and fellow artists have flooded social media with messages of congratulations and support. Many celebrated the milestone not just as a personal victory for Jordan, but as a testament to resilience, faith, and the importance of dialogue about men’s health.
As Jordan continues to regain strength — returning to the gym, work, and daily life — his message remains clear: hope, vigilance, and community support are essential in the fight against cancer.
