12-Year-Old Girl Killed in Crossfire During Youth Football Game at Baltimore Park

A 12-year-old girl was killed Saturday evening after police said two men exchanged gunfire during an argument believed to involve a parking space near Leon Day Park in West Baltimore.

The victim, identified by her family as Khloe Ishway, was at the park when the shooting occurred at about 6:15 p.m. on October 3. Baltimore police responding to the 1200 block of North Franklintown Road found Khloe and a 25-year-old woman with gunshot wounds. Khloe was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead. The woman was hospitalized in stable condition.

Police said two men, ages 23 and 28, later went to hospitals for treatment of gunshot wounds. A 35-year-old woman also sought treatment several hours later for a graze wound. The adult victims’ injuries were not considered life-threatening.

Police Say Parking Dispute Led to Gunfire

Baltimore Police Commissioner Richard Worley said investigators believe the shooting began when two men argued over a parking space and then fired at each other. Khloe was not believed to have been the intended target.

“She was probably down there watching football,” Worley said.

Mayor Brandon Scott condemned the shooting, saying, “Two grown men got into an argument, and now a 12-year-old is gone.”

Khloe’s mother, Kristin Reese, told CBS Baltimore that her daughter enjoyed dancing, music and spending time with family.

“I want justice for my baby,” Reese said.

Khloe’s grandmother said the girl called her every day and was her best friend.

“I’m going to miss my baby,” she said.

The family said they had gone to the park briefly to drop something off. The youth football organization said the shooting did not originate from the game or involve the participating teams.

No Arrests Announced

As of October 5, no arrests had been announced. Police said they were pursuing leads and searching for at least two people believed to be involved.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Baltimore police homicide detectives at 410-396-2100 or Metro Crime Stoppers.

A peace walk was scheduled in Khloe’s honor as family members and community leaders called for justice and an end to violence.

Y’all Know What extends our deepest condolences to Khloe Ishway’s mother, grandmother, family, friends and everyone who loved her. May Khloe rest peacefully, and may her family find strength during this unimaginable loss.
