Tony! Toni! Toné! Renuite For First Tour in 25 Years

Tony! Toni! Toné! is back in action! The popular 90s group will be going on tour for the first time in 25 years.

Tony! Toni! Toné!’s lead singer Raphael Saadiq shared the news on Instagram with a list of tour dates.

The “Feels Good” trio is comprised of Saadiq, his brother D’Wayne Wiggins, and Timothy Christian Riley.

Tony! Toni! Toné! is one of the most beloved R&B groups. From 1988 to 1996, they released four albums and stacked up numerous hits, including “Little Walter,” “It Feels Good,” “The Blues,” “Whatever You Want,” “If I Had No Loot,” “Anniversary,” “Let’s Get Down, and “It Never Rains (In Southern California).”

This week, the group will celebrate the 30th anniversary of their most successful album, Sons of Soul. The album received double platinum certification.

The new jack swing group disbanded in the late 1990s after releasing the R&B staple House of Music album; Saadiq went on to collaborate with the likes of D’Angelo and Beyonce amid a string of solo albums, starting with 2002’s Instant Vintage. He also collaborated with A Tribe Called Quest’s Ali Shaheed Muhammad and En Vogue’s Dawn Robinson in Lucy Pearl, where they released their hit single, Dance Tonight.” Lucy Pearl only released one album.

Saadiq’s songwriting contribution to Beyonce’s hit single “Cuff It” earned him the Best R&B Song award at the 65th Grammy Awards. He also co-wrote on Daniel Caesar’s new album, Never Enough, out now.

Wiggins and Riley also went on as a duo act.

“I’ve always wanted to put my family back together,” Saadiq said in a press statement. “Playing with the Tonys again is a thank you to the fans, the Super Tonians, for supporting all my musical efforts. Without those who were with us from Day One, where would I be? But the main reason is that my father, Charlie Wiggins, would’ve wanted it this way–to see me, D’Wayne, and Tim playing together again.”

In 2019, Saadiq showed an eagerness for Tony! Toni! Toné! to reconnect on Sway’s Universe.

“I’ve been working on new Tonys music for about 15 years. I just felt like we should do something, a few songs, maybe seven or eight of them and then do a few shows,” he said at the time. “So I’m not gonna be back-back because I have way too many things going on, but as far as doing a tour and an EP or something, I’m down for that.”

He continued: “I’d actually like to perform the very last record we did together, House of Music. We never toured that record so if everyone is up for it I’d like to do that and put out three new records.”

At the shows, Saadiq will perform songs with the group and sing some of his solo material.
