The Root Of Racism. Prejudice Referee Alan Maloney Makes Wrestling Student Cut Dreads Before Match.

Have you ever read something that just stuck in your gut and would not move. This is how we feel about this story right HERE.

A New Jersey student was horribly humiliated when a racist referee made him cut his dreads before a match. If the child would have refused to have his hair cut, he would have lost the game automatically.

What made the situation even more devastating, is that the poor fella had his hair yanked off for all of the other players, coaches, and spectators to see.

“A referee made a high school wrestler choose between cutting his dreadlocks or forfeiting his match Wednesday, according to SNJ Today.

At Buena Regional High School’s meet with Oakcrest High Wednesday, wrestler Andrew Johnson had his dreadlocks covered as he prepared for his 120 pound match. Referee Alan Maloney told Johnson he could either cut his hair of forfeit, so Johnson chose the last minute haircut, according to SNJ Today.

Johnson secured the victory by sudden takedown and Buena went on to win Wednesday’s match 41–24.

Maloney’s ultimatum to Johnson sparked outrage but isn’t the first time the referee has landed in hot water.

In 2016, Maloney was accused of directing a racial slur at another referee. At a private gathering between officials at a condominium, Maloney allegedly poked referee Preston Hamilton in the chest and allegedly used a racial slur during an argument over homemade wine. Hamilton slammed Maloney to the ground, according to the Courier Post.

Maloney told the Courier-Post that he did not remember making the comments.

After Hamilton reported the incident, Maloney agreed to participate in sensitivity training and an alcohol awareness program. Maloney was to be suspended for one year for his use of the slur and Hamilton would receive the same suspension for assaulting Maloney. However, both officials appealed their suspensions, which were overturned, according to NJ.com.”

The only thing worse than this coach embarrassing a young man like this, is the other adults behaving like everything is okay.

Andrew Young will probably get over this dilemma. He will probably have this memory embedded in his brain every time he enters a gymnasium. Maloney should receive some type of punishment for his actions! It’s obvious that he has some type of racial thoughts considering his comments in the past. This alone should be enough to have this ref removed from any type of sports activities effective immediately.

We’ll make sure to keep you guys in the know about the fate of this racist clown. In the mean time, we’ll keep Andrew in our thoughts and prayers. It’s gonna take him a minute to get over this.”

  1. Foolishness, complete foolishness!!!! This young man looks like many of the amazing young men that I am privileged to work with on a daily basis in my community. What happened to him was degrading, demeaning, and deplorable. I had a friend of mine who grew long dreads for years that went down his back. This young black man served in his church each week. This young black man was brilliant and a college graduate. This young black man was a mentor to young black men. This same young black man was pulled by a cop, profiled because of his dreads, and humiliated in front of one of the very students he worked so hard to mentor and impact. This young black man did nothing wrong, but due to the profiling was so hurt by the incident that he cut his dreads. He was so concerned that he could be profiled and assaulted by police because he was black with dreads, that he had to cut his hair. This sadly is a reality that young black men have to live with, the ignorant can mistake you for dangerous when greatness is in you. All my friend did was be black in America, with a head full of dreads, but to the ignorant and racist his style of hair off as a threatening.

Dreads do not make our young black men a threat, nor is it a style or look to be frowned upon by others who simply do not like it. I’m so glad this young man won his match. My hope is that he also knows that he has a right to be proud of being a young black man. He has a right to wear his hair in a style that embraces and celebrates his ethnicity and as well as his personal flair. This fuels me even more to push harder to work with our black youth. It’s my heart to push them to be the best they can be as they grow up in a world where some choose to look at them and see threats before they see potential.

  2. This just breaks my heart. I swear this is just another way to call someone a ni$*er. He might as well spit in his face. I can’t believe we STILL have to deal with this.

  3. This is sad but the word of God clearly states that the last shall be made first!!! Cheer up my sisters and brothers God got this!!
