‘The Real’ Canceled After 8 Seasons
After 8 years in syndication, The Real daytime talk show has been canceled by Warner Bros., according to Variety.
Currently, the lineup of the hosts includes singer/actress Adrienne Bailon, comedian/actress Loni Love, TV host/stylist Jeannie Mai, and actress/model Garcelle Beauvais.
The show originally started with hosts Bailon, Love, Mai, Tamera Mowry-Housley, and singer and TV personality Tamar Braxton, who excited the show in 2016.
Comedian/actress Amanda Seales joined the show for five months but then decided not to renew her contract. Shortly after, original hostess Mowry-Housley, stepped down after 7 years.
Love took to Twitter to share a statement where she shared that she believes COVID costs “killed” the show.
She shared it again on Instagram in more detail.
In the end The Real cast & crew did everything we could to scale the show down..We shot 7-8 shows in 3 days, no audience, made a conference room into a studio, but in my opinion Covid costs killed this show…it’s been a great ride and thank you to the audio for allowing 8 seasons of show that was Emmy winning and historic.
Most importantly thank you to the viewers for riding with us.. this is not goodbye but see you all soon!
Beauvais also reacted to the news on Twitter.
What a fantastic run for the series! These young ladies have won three Daytime Emmys and two NAACP Image Awards. We are wishing nothing but great success.
