Lil Nas X’s song “Old Town Road (I Got The Horses In The Back)” has a Wild Wild West vibe with a hip hop spin. The genre-blending tune was a breakout hit five weeks ago when it debuted on three Billboard charts at the same time: the Hot 100, Hot R&B/Hip Hop Songs and Hot Country Songs. But Billboard quietly removed the song from the country chart the following week, which left many to wonder, “Is it because he’s black,” or “Is it because there’s a hip hop element?”

The song was original published on YouTube on Dec. 2, 2018 where many viewers begin reposting and added their own version to the cover. After getting much attention online, radio stations begin playing it all over the country with brought an unexpected success to the 20-year old artist.
