Texas Woman and Boyfriend Charged With Capital Murder After Allegedly Robbing and Killing Her Older Sister

A tragic case out of Houston, Texas, has left a family devastated after a 20-year-old woman and her boyfriend were charged with capital murder in connection with the alleged robbery and killing of her 27-year-old older sister, Aveyia Webb.

According to court records and reports from ABC13 Houston, Alaya Sadae Jones and her boyfriend, 25-year-old Kaleb John Maglott, are accused of killing Webb inside her west Houston apartment while committing a robbery. Both suspects were arrested on Thursday, October 1, 2026, and charged with capital murder.

Family Discovers Webb’s Body

Houston police responded to an apartment in the 8100 block of Richmond Avenue on the morning of October 1 after a family member discovered Webb unresponsive inside her home. Police said the victim had suffered a gunshot wound, and paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene.

According to relatives, the family became concerned after Webb stopped responding to calls and messages. Her aunt, Beverly Hobbs, went to check on her and discovered her body on the couch.

The discovery has left loved ones struggling to comprehend how Webb’s life could end under such circumstances, particularly with her younger sister now accused of being involved.

“We would have never thought we had to protect her from her own little sister,” aunt Edie Smith-Anderson told ABC13.

Investigators Allege Robbery Was Planned

According to family members interviewed by ABC13, Jones had been living in Florida with Maglott and told relatives she planned to return to Houston to get her life back on track and reconnect with family.

However, investigators allegedly uncovered text messages on Jones’ phone that relatives believe indicate the trip was planned for a different purpose.

Smith-Anderson told the station that the messages allegedly discussed traveling to Houston, killing Webb and taking her belongings. Family members also said Webb’s wallet and vehicle were stolen.

Houston police reported that their investigation identified Jones and Maglott as suspects. According to the department’s October 5 news release, Jones admitted to her role in her sister’s death during questioning. Both suspects were subsequently charged with capital murder.

The allegations remain part of an ongoing criminal case, and the defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

Aveyia Webb Remembered as a Woman With a Bright Future

Amid the criminal investigation, Webb’s family and friends are remembering her for the life she was building and the opportunities that lay ahead.

Webb worked as a hairstylist and was preparing to pursue further education in the pharmacy field. Those who knew her described her as positive, caring and full of promise.

Her relatives said she had been making progress toward independence and had a future she was excited to embrace. Her death has been especially painful for the family because of the close relationship she reportedly shared with her younger sister.

“She was really a very positive light in our life,” Rosie Hart, a close friend of Webb’s, told ABC13.

Her aunt Beverly Hobbs also reflected on Webb’s potential, describing her as someone who was ready to take on the world.

Capital Murder Charges

Jones and Maglott face capital murder charges in Harris County, Texas, in connection with Webb’s death. Houston police said the case was assigned to the 482nd Criminal District Court.

As the legal proceedings move forward, Webb’s loved ones are left mourning a woman they say had so much more life to live.

The investigation and prosecution will determine the legal responsibility of the two defendants. For Webb’s family, however, the loss is already devastating: a 27-year-old woman with plans for her future has died, and her younger sister stands accused in the case.
