Update: 16-Year Old Arrested In Fatal Shooting Of Shoe Palace Employee

UPDATE: A 16-year old boy has been arrested on suspicion of killing 26-year-old Jayren Bradford outside of Shoe Palace at 7725 Melrose Ave.

According to LAPD, the suspect was arrested Thursday around 12:30 p.m. in the 8100 block of State Street in South Gate.

A Shoe Palace employee was shot and killed after trying to deescalate a dispute over a store raffle. The victim is identified as 26-year old Jayren Bradford.

The incident occurred Wednesday before 12:30 pm in Fairfax near the Melrose store.

He was taken to a nearby hospital, police said. The Los Angeles Police Department later confirmed he had died.

The suspect fled the scene and remains on the loose. Officers said suspect was last seen in a silver sedan.

Witnesses and investigators said the incident started with a dispute over a raffle the store was holding over a pair of sneakers. The employee who was shot was just arriving to work and saw a crowd arguing outside the store and tried to intervene.

A witness said the employee appeared to be trying to de-escalate the situation and was backing away when he was shot.

Video provided by the witness shows the altercation.

Bradford was an aspiring musician who lived down the street from the store he was working at for the past few months before his death.

A sign in the store window indicates the raffle was for a pair of Nike Dunk Low sneakers in Black Multi Camo color scheme. Nike is expected to release the sneaker to the public on Aug. 18, for a retail price of $110, though some online sellers are already listing it for $150.

There were many cameras in the area and police are expected to retrieve the video footage to help with the case.

Loved ones gathered around the store Wednesday night for a memorial to honor Bradford.
