Shannen Doherty recently revealed that her breast cancer has returned.
The 48-year-old 90210 star was originally diagnosed with breast cancer in February 2015, but after the cancer went into remission, Shannen said it has come back as Stage 4.
The actress, who is private, chose to come forward with the news herself to control the narrative surrounding her cancer.
“I don’t think that I’ve processed it. It’s a bitter pill to swallow in a lot of ways,” Shannen told Good Morning America‘s Amy Robach during a Tuesday interview. “I have definite days where I say, ‘Why me?’ And then I have days where I say, ‘Why not me? Who else? Who else besides me deserves this?’ None of us do.”
Shannen was living with this news while preparing for the reboot of Beverly Hills 90210. To make matters worse, she also learned her 90210 co-star and longtime friend, Luke Perry, had died of a stroke.
She said the only co-star she told of her diagnosis at the time was Brian Austin Green, who said he will always have her back.
Shannen admits to being “petrified” and “pretty scared” of the health battle ahead of her. But she wanted to show that she could still work while battling Stage 4 cancer, adding, “I want to make an impact.”
