Say What? ‘Leaving Neverland’ Wins Emmy For Outstanding Documentary
Leaving Neverland, the documentary that looks into abuse allegations made against pop starĀ Michael Jackson, has won a Creative Arts Emmy Award for Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Special.
The 71st Emmy Awards kicked off Saturday at the Microsoft Theater in downtown Los Angeles, and the one-sided documentary took home an award.
The two-part film directed by Dan Reed focused on testimony by Wade Robson, 36, and James Safechuck, 41, who both claim that Michael sexually abused them when they were children but later it was revealed that there were many holes in their claims.
Also there is evidence Wade Robson lied repeatedly in the past, and he was viewed as an unreliable witness by a judge –some of his latest allegations are not even based on his own memories.
Michael Jackson denied any wrongdoing before his death in 2009, and he was never found guilty of any of these claims so it’s strange that this film would win an award on unreliable sources.
The Jackson Estate filed a $100 Million lawsuit against the HBO special and they are really disturbed that the production was made when Michael is not even here to defend himself.
HBO then filed a motion to dismiss the suit.
