Acclaimed actress Sanaa Lathan has signed on to star in Tilt, an upcoming independent thriller directed by Sophia Banks and produced by Getaway Entertainment. The film is currently in production in Los Angeles.
Lathan joins a cast that already includes Briana Middleton and Kyle Allen. Set against the backdrop of a devastating Los Angeles wildfire, Tilt follows freelance reporter Evie, played by Middleton, and cinematographer Jake, portrayed by Allen, as they chase a career-defining story. Their investigation ultimately leads them into a dangerous world of corruption, media manipulation, and growing unrest throughout the city.
Lathan will portray Maeve Paxton, Evie’s mother, a role created specifically for the veteran actress. In a joint statement, the producers praised Lathan’s long and successful career, noting that they have admired her work since her breakout performance in Love & Basketball and were excited to see her bring the character of Maeve to life.
The film is being directed by Banks from a screenplay written by bestselling author Arwen Elys Dayton. Producers include Damiano Tucci and Peter Winther, with casting handled by Tarama-Lee Notcutt.
Lathan remains one of Hollywood’s most respected performers. She earned an Emmy nomination for her work on the hit HBO series Succession and is widely recognized for standout roles in films such as The Best Man, Brown Sugar, Something New, and Nappily Ever After.
In recent years, Lathan has expanded her work behind the camera, making her directorial debut with On the Come Up, an adaptation of the novel by Angie Thomas. She also recently completed production on A Blue Butterfly in London.
