R&B singer Nivea is opening up about one of the toughest battles of her life, revealing that she has been diagnosed with leukemia.
The 44-year-old singer shared the emotional news during a recent appearance on the Cadillac Chronicles interview series, where she disclosed that she learned of her diagnosis earlier this year. Despite the difficult news, Nivea said her treatment has been going well, and she remains grateful to God for carrying her through the journey.
Known for early 2000s hits like “Don’t Mess with My Man,” “Laundromat,” and “Okay,” Nivea said the diagnosis has completely changed her outlook on life. She explained that the experience reminded her how quickly everything can change and inspired her to stop putting off her dreams.
As part of that renewed perspective, the singer revealed she is throwing herself back into music while also pursuing audio engineering so she can learn to mix her own records. She said she’s determined to make the most of every opportunity moving forward.
Nivea also spoke about the importance of family during her health battle. The mother of four said she is focused on spending time with her children and refuses to let her diagnosis define or stop her from doing what she loves.
The singer shares three children—daughter Navy and twin sons London and Christian—with her ex-husband, singer-songwriter The-Dream. She also shares son Neal Carter, who performs under the name Lil Novi, with rapper Lil Wayne.
