Henderson was born in Yazoo City, Mississippi on July 7, 1951 and raised in Detroit, MI. When he was 13-years old, Henderson played bass with a list of Motown acts from 1964 to 1965.

He toured with legendary artists like Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, The Dramatic, and Marvin Gaye.

Henderson spent most of his time playing on projects with iconic trumpeter Miles Davis. He played with Davis on three jazz albums which include Jack Johnson (1971), Live-Evil (1971), and Agharta (1975).

Henderson also made many hit ballads with singer/songwriter/drummer Norman Connor.

In 1976, Buddah Records Connor released a classic album entitled “You Are My Starship,” featuring the incomparable Henderson. The album reached number five on the US R&B chart and number one on the Jazz chart. He also arranged songs from the album, including “We Both Needed Each Other” with the distinctive voice of Phyllis Hyman.

He then made a series of successful solo records that produced hits “Take Me I’m Yours”, “Wide Receiver”, “Be My Girl “, and several other songs.

Thank you for the fantastic music, sir. You are truly Our Starship. Rest In Peace.
