Pregnant Navy Veteran Killed At Christmas Party Days Before Her Wedding

A pregnant woman who was celebrating Christmas at a party in North Carolina was fatally shot when a fight broke out.

Precious Dyer, an 8-year Navy veteran, was four months pregnant with her first child and only days away from getting married.

Deputies said the 29-year old was attending a holiday event at the Evolution Music Hall in Wilson on Sunday, Dec. 26 around 1:30 a.m. A fight broke out at the party and Dyer was shot in the head. Reports say she passed away at the scene but she was officially pronounced dead at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.

Officials say she wasn’t a part of the fight and may have been an “innocent patron.”

WITN spoke with Dyer’s family. They said she was the oldest of 10 children and they will remember her as being the “backbone” of the family. They described her as being sweet and adventurous.

“She was always trying to go see something that she had never seen before,” said her mother Tijuana Locus. She added, “I’m hurt, I’m in shock and I just can’t believe my daughter’s gone.”

Her father Dwight Locus said, “My daughter will be greatly missed because to us, she was our everything.”

Dyer’s parents are urging people to speak up if they know anything.

Wilson County Sheriff’s Office is hoping to hear from other patrons who attended the party. Those with information are asked to submit tips on the department’s app or call deputies at 252-237-2118.

Dyer’s funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 8, 2022, at  Stevens Funeral Home, 1820 Martin Luther King, Jr. Parkway, Wilson, NC.

A public visitation is scheduled from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Friday, January 7, 2022 at the same location.

Sending condolences to the family.
