Pope Francis Apologizes For Smacking Woman’s Hand To Free Himself From Her Grip

We’re only one day into the new year and the Pope has already snapped.

In a video that has surfaced, Pope Francis was happily greeting children and pilgrims in St. Peter’s Square on Tuesday while making his way to the Nativity scene at the center of Vatican City. Out of nowhere a woman aggressively grabbed his hand and he slapped it to free himself.

As seen in the video, the 83-year old pope became visibly upset and he briefly shouted at the woman. It’s unclear what she was trying to tell him.
Pope Francis has now come forward to apologize for his actions.
In his address on Wednesday morning in a packed St. Peter’s Square, the pope confessed to losing his patience with the woman.
“So many times we lose patience. Me, too,” said in his impromptu remarks. “I say ‘excuse me’ for the bad example.”

The pope’s action sparked backlash from people on social media, with one person writing: “Not what Jesus would have done.”

Although Pope Francis actions seem out of pocket, we also must remember that he isn’t Jesus. Every man will fall short but he possibly could have handled the situation differently? Yanking away is one thing, but smacking someone’s hand could be taken in a demeaning way.

What do y’all think? Do you blame the pope for slapping this woman’s hand? Leave us a comment below.
