Phylicia Rashad Named Dean of Howard University’s Fine Arts College

Phylicia Rashad, who is mostly known for her role as Claire Huxtable on The Cosby Show, has been named Dean at Howard University’s Fine Arts College.

The university shared the news on social media.

Rashad, who is a HU alumna herself, left a statement sharing her excitement of the new role.

“It is a privilege to serve in this capacity and to work with the Howard University administration, faculty and students in reestablishing the College of Fine Arts,” said Rashad.

The 72-year old iconic actor has served as guest lecturer and adjunct faculty member, conducting master’s-level classes at many colleges, universities and arts organizations.

Rashad holds honorary doctorates from Howard University, Spelman College, the University of South Carolina at Columbia, Tuskegee University, Brown University, Bennett College, St. Augustine College, Providence College, Barber Scotia College, Clark Atlanta University, Morris Brown College, Carnegie Mellon University and Fordham University.

When Rashad plans to take a hands on approach with her new role. She will be present on campus and intends to focus on re-establishing the fine arts school as a premier program in the country.
